Selecting the right Babydoll Southdown Ewe to contribute to out breeding program is very important. We feel the selected ewe is much more important and plays a much larger role then the ram. When a good breeder is considering a Babydoll Ewe to join their breeding program many things are concidered to incluid healty history, conformation, but most of all we concider the disposition of the Babydoll ewe. The ewes disposition is very important building block because it is the ewe that teaches the young Babydoll lamb everything about being a sheep. The ewe is a big part in the develoment of the new Babydoll lambs friendly personality. The young lambs look to the momma ewes to teach them all about the new world they now live in and how to survive as a sheep. The best Babydoll ewes insure their new lambs get the great care as they insure their babies eat planty as well as not letting their new lambs sleep to much so they can grow strong.

Babydoll Southdown sheep are very gentle by nature and can become very friendly pets that will give you years of enjoyment. But this is not happen automatically. But the breeding to reach this goal is very important. When we select the ewes to be in our breeding program there are many thing we consider to include looks, color, health, but we think the most important trait is their disposition and how friendly the mom's are. Our girls are very sweet to be around and have produced wonderful Babydoll Southdown lambs for us.

Above are some of our black Babydoll Southdown ewes enjoying a summer afternoon four months after their fleeces were sheared for the summer. This gives you an idea on how their fleece also called fiber grows and how easy it is to take care of. I like the black sheep the most for many reasons and one being the black sheep always look very clean. When the black sheep are sheared they get their black color back. As their fleece or fiber grown back in they start to fade from the sun and start to get the rich looking shades of brown colors. Some will have dark rich looking brown fiber and other black sheep will have lighter cream brown looking fleeces.
